This is an association that functions as a subdivision under Red Saree foundation umbrella. Its main mission is to bring all the scientists together who does basic, translational and clinical research on cardiovascular diseases. RedSaree will facilitate the findings and the outcome of the association to reach to the general population.
Shree Gurusamy has been practicing as a Social Worker for more than 20 years in the Chicago area, working with Immigrant families and seniors. Currently she works as a CASE MANAGER assisting Medicaid members with home and community based services. She holds a bachelors degree in Family and Child Studies and a Masters degree in Social Work. She is on the board of several non-profit organizations and does community outreach and education activities. She has organized women's forums, women's empowerment workshops, health education and disease prevention seminars in the Indian Community of Chicago. She volunteers at Sanjeevani- a non-profit organization providing mental health education and support services in Chicago.
Dr. Thomas completed her Ph.D. from Chaudhary Charan Singh University, India and currently working as Assistant Professor at Loyola University Chicago, Illinois, USA. Before relocating to Chicago, A. Thomas assumed faculty position at Texas Tech University, Lubbock, Texas, USA for about 5 years. Annie is the Director, research and development for the IDF-USA chapter. Annie’s current research focus is to understand the obesity prevention behaviors among Asian Indian adolescents in the US and to institute obesity/overweight intervention strategies in reducing the risk factors for type 2 diabetes and Coronary Heart Disease in later life. Her other research interests include Type 2 diabetes risk assessment and preventative measures among Asian Indian adults; immigrant health; cross cultural studies; knowledge related to risk factors of Coronary Heart Disease and preventative measures among adolescents.
One of the recent service-oriented projects initiated by IDF-USA include organizing fundraising event in collaboration with Kerala Association of Chicago to support the Kerala Flood victims. Annie is currently seeking collaboration and networking to work with South Asians for health promotion and disease prevention research studies. Dr. Thomas has mentored many students in completing the research projects and research presentations in the US and abroad. She is also a reviewer of books, manuscripts and abstracts for various publishing companies/organizations. She has presented many papers on various topics at the national and international level. Dr. Thomas’s service experiences include participation in the service-learning community projects, both, in India and the US. She actively participates in the university and department level committees such as curriculum committee, undergraduate program admission, progression and retention committee, awards and scholarship committee among other administrative commitments.
Palani Sakthi ("Sakthi") is one of the Board of Members. Sakthi now serves as the Advisory Board Member for Castor Home Nursing, Serving over 12 counties in the home health. He is also a technologist and serving as Chief Solution Architect for delivering cognitive solutions. Sakthi was also a co-founder for Chicago Children's Heart Association (Non-profit organization 2011-2015) and led the effort to create awareness of heart diseases. He is also a big believer in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) to carry out and effectively deliver Red Saree's mission to local community. He holds Master of Science in Computer Science, Bachelor of Science in Physics, and filed more than 20 patents in the technology space.
