This is an association that functions as a subdivision under Red Saree foundation umbrella. Its main mission is to bring all the scientists together who does basic, translational and clinical research on cardiovascular diseases. RedSaree will facilitate the findings and the outcome of the association to reach to the general population.

Rajasekaran (Raja) Namakkal-Soorappan
President (Jul 2019 to Jun 2022) Red Saree Birmingham Chapter Dr. Namakkal-Soorappan has spent the last decade and half exploring the regulation of Redox Signaling in heart and skeletal muscle. After completing his undergraduate/master Biology degrees and M.Phil/Ph.D Thesis in Biochemistry (1995 – 2001) from the University of Madras in Tamilnadu, Chennai, India, he went on to undertake his post-doctoral training in the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM), Department of Chemistry as Department of Biotechnology (Govt. of India) Fellow (2002 – 2003) to investigate the roles of nutraceutical phenolic antioxidants in diabetic humans. He continued his postdoctoral training (2004 – 2008) in the Department of Medicine – Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, UT. He was then promoted as junior faculty (Research Instructor) at the University of Utah in 2008 and then promoted as Research Assistant Professor in 2010. In July of 2014, he joined the faculty at The University of Alabama at Birmingham in the Division of Molecular and Cellular Pathology as an Assistant Professor and now promoted as Associate Professor. Dr. Namakkal- Soorappan’s translational research focus on the genetic basis of reductive stress in CVD patients including South Asian Communities and therefore, he is interested in serving for Red Saree and SAHA. His outside interests include time with my wife and two young daughters, conducting social awareness rallies on the impact of exercise in cardiac health and writing screen plays for Tamil movies.
